I started my Bible journaling journey about 2 years ago. However, I have taken a break because we moved, we had a baby, and we’ve just been super busy. Bad excuse, yeah, I know. But, I’m fully planning on starting to regularly get back into Bible journaling! I’ve never had a hobby (other than writing these blog posts) that expresses myself like Bible journaling. I love that it won’t and doesn’t have to be perfect.
I won’t go super deep into why I started Bible journaling since that is just too much for this post. So, basically I lost a childhood friend in a car accident in January 2016. I didn’t understand so much about the situation and because of this I found myself questioning God in the time leading up to her funeral. Not good. She was very active in her church and I had actually even went to Vacation Bible School with her at her church a couple of years when we were younger. Her funeral was perfect. It felt as if her pastor was speaking directly to me. They read directly from her Bible. Long story short, my whole family joined this church (even after belonging to a different church for our whole lives).
Going to church was so refreshing. Each week it seemed like I left feeling like I understood more and more about what my life actually meant. One Sunday I hadn’t looked at the pamphlet that gave the schedule for the service. ‘I Can Only Imagine’ starts playing. This song was played at her funeral just a few weeks before and because of this it was almost overwhelming. I went home and started searching for more ways to get into my Bible. I was sick of only getting the overwhelming feeling at church. It was time to get out of my comfort zone.
I found some random photos of Bible journaling on Pinterest and knew that I had found exactly what I was looking for.
I should add… I’m NOT artistic. That’s why my style of Bible journaling is a little messy and bright. I love it. However, it probably won’t be just anyone’s style. I use a completely separate Bible for Bible journaling and do my absolute best to still be able to read everything (sometimes mistakes do happen). I found a few supplies that I felt like I needed and ordered them on Amazon. They arrived in just a couple of days and I’ve never regretted any of it. I will be making a Bible journaling supplies post and I’ll link it at the bottom of this post when it is complete, if that is something that you’re interested in.
Each time I was ready to start a new bible journaling page, I would start by searching for a verse. Sometimes Google what I was looking for and sometimes it would be a verse that our pastor used in his sermon. You can really do anything that you want.
This has truly helped me to get to the place in my faith that I feel like I understand. I understand why things have happened the way that they have therefore I know so much more about myself and who I want to be, and the exact way that we want our baby to be raised.
I truly feel better about myself and I love this expression outlet. If you have any questions, you can use the Contact tab or leave a comment below!
